Within minutes, we were then escorted to a private boat for transfer to the island. Arriving at the island we were met by one of the hotel staff who greeted us with traditional soft drink made of mixed berries. We were escorted a few metres past the unique reception area, open air restaurant Bokkura, where we had all our sumptuous breakfasts and a few dinners and the bar where we had most lunches and drinks during our stay. Right behind the bar, was the South American restaurant adjoining the infinity pool and a lagoon area which was perfect for snorkelling and to watch the diverse marine life as well as the Taj's efforts to restore coral reefs etc. We were taken to our over-water villa - a semi detached property over the lagoon looking out to the ocean with a lot of privacy at the back. The room was very spacious and equipped with a nice king-size bed with plush pillows, a third bed (if required as we were 3 in our party). There was a separate storage area for luggage and the bathroom, equipped with a shower and full bath was rather spacious with open floor to ceiling windows towards the ocean. The outside deck was very beautiful with deck chairs and direct access to the lagoon. The food at all restaurants including the South American/Mexican restaurant with outside seating overlooking the infinity pool and lagoon were exceptional. Dinesh, the executive chef was always supervising the preparation and we had left the planing of our entire menu - all a la carte, in his care as the choice was vast and deciding on anything was the hardest part. The food was typically Taj quality and portions were extremely generous. The general manager Abnash Kumar is simply an amazing well educated and well travelled person who is a pleasure to talk to and we spent many an hour talking to him about the hotel and all his experiences in South Africa, India and esp. the Andamans. While the resort could do with a bit of a renovation and redevelopment, we are confident that Abnash will be very successful executing the project. The island is nice and compact. It has a full fledged Padi certified Dive centre and Tiiam was simply great escorting helping the novices to some guided open water snorkelling or even diving. The dive team were simply great and proficient. Sajanie in Bokkura was very personal at all times and made sure we were always taken care of during breakfasts/dinners. The resort had a well equipped gym and full feature Jiva spa. This was a very enjoyable 4-day break that we had prior to a longer stay at another island. Our special thanks to Dinesh, the exec chef, Satya the sous chef, Suman the bartender, Adam and Zain at reception and of course the entire team at Taj Coral Reef headed by Abnash Kumar for making our stay a thoroughly enjoyable one. Right from the arrival at Male Airport to Pick up to check-in experience to Rooms to food to location to service to activities to check out. Cannot find a fault in anything. Check In We were picked from Male airport and transferred to the hotel in a speed boat. The person attending to us guided us to the speed boat. The 40 min transfer to the hotel was smooth and absolutely have no complaints about it. The baggage tags along with the room number were ready for us. We were instantly transferred to the speed boat and not made to wait anywhere. The speed boat was a comfortable ride till the hotel. Up on arrival at the hotel the check in took just 5 minutes and we were guided on the facilities and activities available in the hotel. The explanation was clear. Room I had pre-informed the hotel I was travelling with a 6 year old kid. The hotel had an extra bed ready in the room already and we did not have to think once. The room was neat, clean, spacious and bright. The amenities in the room were more than adequate to satisfy me and my family. The entire 5 days stay across the Beach Villa and the Ocean Villa we were taken care very well. The housekeeping team made sure that the room was welcoming and fresh every time we stepped in. Restaurants Even though it was about 2:00 PM by the time we checked in the hotel on our arrival day and the restaurants had closed for meals the team at the restaurant was warm and kind to arrange lunch for us. Kudos to Chef Dinesh and his entire team at all the restaurants at the hotel. Over 5 days we had 15 meals at the hotel. There was no problem of choice and variety (Even though we are vegetarians). We enjoyed the meals. The serving staff at the hotel was warm and really greeted and treated us well. My 6-Year-old son could bond with the team and freely talk to them. By the end of our stay the team in all the restaurants could recommend us good food suitable to our tastes. Services (Excursion Centre and Dive Centre) All the activities done by us as a family or individual were amazing. These experiences would stay with us for a lifetime. The dive center team was Professional and great in guiding us through the snorkeling and scuba activities. Special mention of Dive Centre Instructor Sam. Other than that, the Dolphin Tour, the Sunset cruise, the night cruise and other activities done by us at the hotel were lovely and would be memories that we cherish. Check Out The team at the hotel informed us one night before about the bill settlement and made sure that the check out does not take more than 5 minutes. One day prior to check out they even reminded us for the immigration forms to be filled beforehand so that we do not face any issues at the airport. On the day of check out the staff was there at the doorstep to pick our luggage. The team at the restaurant knew about our early morning check out and had the breakfast ready. They were kind enough to pack a small breakfast for my 6 Year Old. The speed boat was ready on our arrival at the jetty. The captain of the speed boat also ensure that we were dropped right till the airline's luggage check in counter. At the end I would just want to thank the entire team at the hotel for a memorable experience. Please continue with the great work and I shall surely be back for more very soon at the hotel. The water villa was an epitome of luxury and the view from our room seemed like a gateway to paradise. Here I would like to place a special mention for your staff member at the Bokura Restaurant, Sajini. Her warmth and courtesy was something that we have never experienced before.
