The Cocoon Collection has celebrated the successful completion of its first-ever Starter Program, a pioneering internship initiative designed to nurture and empower the next generation of Maldivian hospitality professionals. The graduation ceremony, held on 7th April 2026, marked the culmination of a transformative six-month journey for 24 young talents.

The event was honoured by distinguished guests including Ms Zeenath Solih, Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies at Maldives National University; Ms Aishath Shirmeen, Head of the Hospitality Department at MNU; Mr Nasrulla Musthafa, Executive Dean of AVID College; Ms Ramiza Ali, Executive Dean Personal Secretary of AVID College; Mr Ali Shareef, Dean of the School of Hospitality and Director of the Centre for Foundation Studies at Villa College; and Mr Ismail Nasheed, Director of Stakeholder Engagement, Campus Administration and Development at Villa College.

The Starter Program is The Cocoon Collection’s flagship development initiative, aimed at equipping aspiring Maldivian youth with hands-on experience and valuable insight into resort operations. Participants had the opportunity to explore various departments, develop practical skills, and build a strong foundation for a future in hospitality.

Originally introduced in previous years, the program was redesigned and relaunched in October 2025 with an enhanced structure and broader scope. The journey began with a nationwide talent search in September 2025, led by senior leadership teams from Cocoon Maldives, Joy Island Maldives, and You & Me Maldives. Following a rigorous selection process, selected candidates embarked on a carefully curated six-month development program, combining operational training, structured learning sessions, and field exposure.

The program was officially inaugurated at Joy Island Maldives, highlighting The Cocoon Collection’s continued commitment to investing in local talent and supporting the growth of the Maldivian tourism industry. “The Starter Program reflects our strong belief in the potential of Maldivian youth, ” said Ahmed Jihad (Jay), Chief Operating Officer of The Cocoon Collection. “We are proud to provide meaningful opportunities, practical experience, and mentorship that will help shape their future in hospitality.”

Upon completion, graduates leave with enhanced skills, industry exposure, and greater confidence in their career paths. Several participants have already been offered opportunities to continue their journey within The Cocoon Collection, marking an important step forward in their professional development. Through initiatives such as the Starter Program, The Cocoon Collection continues to reinforce its commitment to community empowerment, fostering future leaders while contributing to the sustainable growth of the hospitality sector in the Maldives.
