Adaaran Select Meedhupparu has introduced BOAVA – The Reef Table, an experiential dining concept celebrating the flavours, stories and culinary traditions of Maldivian island life. Set on the beachfront at North Beach, the experience takes guests on a journey through the Maldives’ fishing heritage, family recipes and maritime influences, guided by host Anwar.

Designed around the journey from ocean to table, BOAVA unfolds across four chapters inspired by Maldivian culture: The Fisherman, The Family Kitchen, The Trading Routes, and Celebration & Community. Each chapter explores a different aspect of island life, from the longstanding relationship between local communities and the surrounding reefs to the family recipes, spice combinations and trading connections that have shaped Maldivian cuisine over generations.

The experience begins in a setting inspired by a traditional Maldivian fishing village, featuring natural materials, coconut timber, woven palm leaves, fishing nets, clay pots, lanterns and maritime artefacts. With low seating and warm lighting, the beachfront setting accommodates just 12 to 16 guests, creating an intimate atmosphere for the evening.

Guests are welcomed with the Raa Ritual, featuring a fermented coconut-water mocktail served in a clay vessel and inspired by traditional island hospitality. Throughout the evening, Anwar shares personal memories and stories behind the dishes, connecting each course to the customs and culinary knowledge passed down through generations.

Traditional cooking methods form an integral part of the experience, with coconut-shell charcoal, clay pots and sand-pit-inspired techniques used to prepare selected dishes. Guests are also invited to embrace traditional Maldivian dining customs, including eating by hand and sharing food from a malafaiy.

The menu celebrates reef-to-table flavours and familiar Maldivian ingredients. It begins with Garudiya, a reef fish soup served with satani, murana roshi and rihaakuru, followed by Fihunu Mas and BOAVA, featuring charcoal-grilled reef octopus and reef fish with island chilli and kaffir lime. Hanaakuri BOAVA presents slow-simmered octopus curry with homemade spices and hand-rolled roshi, while Kandu Fusion offers a contemporary interpretation of coastal flavours featuring lobster. The meal concludes with Gabulhi Boakiba and Coconut Ice, accompanied by toasted coconut ice cream.

At the end of the evening, guests receive keepsakes that extend the experience beyond the table, including a historical recipe booklet, a personalised appreciation note and an engraved coconut-shell souvenir.

Scheduled for every other Wednesday, BOAVA – The Reef Table adds a distinctly Maldivian dimension to the dining experiences at Adaaran Select Meedhupparu, bringing together local ingredients, traditional cooking methods and personal storytelling to offer guests a deeper connection with the culture and heritage of the Maldives.
